Welcome to the Ewan Races...

The Ewan Amateur Turf Club Inc. (EATC) committee is proud to honour the true spirit of country racing, by conducting its annual two-day race meeting, on the banks of Stockyard Creek in North Queensland.

This event was the last professional, grass fed race meeting operating in Queensland. Although no longer grass fed, it is the passionate aspiration of the committee to ensure that all future race meetings will be conducted so as to preserve the rich country racing heritage and for future generations to celebrate and appreciate the efforts and achievements of country racing’s forefathers.

With its self-funded on track facilities, EATC is proud of the provision of safe, compliant racing infrastructure to ensure that first class, professional country racing can take place.

Comfortable camping facilities encourage tourists to attend, supporting the local tourism industry – not to mention the role that the race meeting plays in strengthening the local district’s social links.

The EATC prides itself on its involvement and contribution to local charity networks and community groups. Due to the success of the race meeting, the Apex Club of Townsville, Rotary Sunrise, Queensland Lifesaving Association and the Hervey Range Rural Fire Brigade, have all benefitted financially from the weekend’s major fundraising opportunities. The Club’s facilities are also made available at no expense to the Charters Towers School of Distance Education, enabling children from rural and isolated communities to participate in a valuable formal classroom experience. It is through these quality community networks that EATC remains committed to strengthening its local rapport.

The Club’s current membership is in excess of 800, and each year over 2,000 adults and their children attend the meeting. Attendees are treated to a weekend of competitive, country racing as well as a range of social activities including a children’s fancy dress and sports morning, fun run, free meet and greet barbecue, and calcuttas and cabarets each evening.

A prize pool in excess of $200,000 plus bonuses was on offer in 2021, making it one of the richest country meetings on the racing calendar. With a generous contribution being received from Racing Queensland, the remainder of the funds originate from EATC’s dedicated sponsors, and for this the Club is continually grateful.

The Ewan Races owes its success to the wonderful support it receives from sponsors; to the many volunteers who donate their time and skills in assisting with the race meeting’s preparation; to the dedication of the owners and trainers of the horses; and to each and every member that walks through the gate to embrace the spirit of event.
